Baked Ziti

Baked Ziti

If you are my friend and have had a baby in the last 7 years, I have brought you this meal (if not this one, then the black beans and rice con queso). This is a family favorite, and the recipe was given to me by my friend and former neighbor, Julianne. It freezes well, reheats well, and serves A LOT (at least 8) of people off of only 1 lb of hamburger. You will want this in your arsenal of "crowd pleasers". You're welcome.

Baked Ziti
-from Julianne

1 lb hamburger
1 chopped onion
2-26 oz jars of your favorite spaghetti sauce (I like Barilla Tomato Basil)
1 lb ziti or other tube-shaped pasta (penne or rigatoni), cooked al dente
6 oz sliced provolone cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella
1 1/2 c. sour cream (I use light with good results)
2 T parmesan

Brown hamburger and onion, add sauce and simmer 15 min. In 9x13 layer ingredients in the following order:
1/2 ziti
provolone
sour cream
1/2 sauce mixture
remaining ziti
mozzarella
remaining sauce
parmesan
Bake uncovered at 350 for 30-40 minutes, or until hot. Alternatively, divide into two 8" square pans--bake one for your family of 4-5, and freeze the other (or give it away to someone who just had a baby. They will thank you).

This is my half. I gave half away in an 8" square pan on this date, and kept the other half to bake in an 11x7. We ate off this twice. Both my kids like it--praise the Lord!
